Soccer Tournament: Ottawa vs. Kenya

Ottawa vs Kenya Friendly Soccer Tournament Shared Between Continents via Interactive Internet Video

On April 26th 2011, 400 young Ottawa students kicked-off their day simultaneously with hundreds of fellow students in Solio, Kenya via Giant Screens and live Internet. It was all part of a remarkable experience where local students got to interact with students in Africa while playing soccer in both continents.

Ottawa-- In conjunction with The Garnier FindingLife Expedition to Africa the April 26th 2011  international soccer tournament gave students in Canada and Kenya a unique opportunity to participate in an event that encompasses the love of sport, character development, interactive technology, community building, global connections and much more.

FindingLife founder and Expedition leader Elia Saikaly explains the significance of this even to the students in this inspiring video.

This is more than just a soccer game. Students were given the opportunity to move thru a series of stations where they learned about Kenyan life, culture, and were able to communicate directly via Skype & Instant Messaging with the students in Africa.

Simon Nabukwesi, the Kenyan High Commissioner to Canada was also in attendance to show Kenya’s appreciation and to encourage kids in both countries to continue to strive to reach their goals.

The event serveed as the expansion of the Moving Mountains “Black Cats” program into Solio. The Black Cats keeps kids off the streets by involving them in sports, music, drama and scouting.
